FLASH SIGNAL:
THE WIRELESS SOLUTION
While Flash
Signal’s physical-layer design makes it an ideal foundation
for a wide variety of applications, it is particularly in
the wireless communications space that it has enormous
implications. Here, Flash Signal represents a solution to
the tradeoffs that have constrained wireless systems, by
bringing tangible benefits to the relationship of signal
range, penetration, and power efficiency.
It provides
substantial improvements in signal range
– up to three times the range of other systems - which can
reduce the amount of equipment and infrastructure needed to
cover a given area. This translates into larger service
area coverage and lower operating expenses, as there is less
equipment (antennas, outdoor mounting, etc.) required to be
installed and maintained.
In addition, Flash Signal’s unique
profile makes it a perfect fit for low frequency
channels (i.e., spectrum below about 1 GHz) where it can
take advantage of the better penetration, propagation, and
non-line-of-sight (NLOS) characteristics
available at those frequencies.
For the mobile industry, Flash Signal’s
power-savings attributes cannot be overstated. Power
consumption is the main challenge faced by mobile
applications. From cell phones that are incorporating
advanced multimedia features, to power-hungry WiMax
receivers, there is an acute need to incorporate
technologies that extend battery life. Flash Signal’s
ability to operate at lower power levels than other
transmission methods (while still maintaining a high data
rate) fills this need, providing the energy savings demanded
by mobile devices. This makes it an ideal solution for
compact battery-powered designs that are becoming
increasingly prevalent. |
