xMax
Marketing Campaign "The UnPhone Company" Begins
JULY 27, 2007
In preparation for full commercial launch of xMax Mobile
VoIP, xG has unveiled the marketing and advertising theme
for the promotion of the service. Called "xMax: The UnPhone
Company," the campaign will center around the idea of xMax
offering customers an attractive alternative to the
traditional level of service and features they have had to
accept from their phone company. In the same way that xMax
is based on technology that breaks from the past, the
marketing campaign will promote the attributes of value,
simplicity, and service - concepts that are a break from the
"status quo" currently available to phone subscribers.
Our technology does what other ones cannot; likewise our
mobile phone service does what others cannot (or will not)
do.

xMax Mentioned as an Alternative to Mobile WiMAX and 3G
LTE
JULY 11, 2007
xG received a very favorable mention today in a Frost &
Sullivan analyst briefing entitled "Will Mobile WiMAX
Deliver Mobility?". This briefing was broadcast over the
internet and discussed the many hurdles mobile WiMAX will
have to overcome before it can gain major market
adoption. xMax was mentioned as an extremely viable mobile
broadband technology alternative to both mobile WiMAX and 3G
LTE. The briefing concluded by saying that if xG becomes a
4G technology by 2008, moble WiMAX will be remembered as an
immensely hyped technology that came too late into the
market.
A copy of the
briefing is available for viewing
at
this link. We will post the audio transcript of the
briefing when it becomes available in the next few days.

U.S. Government Decisions
Benefit Wireless Broadband and VoIP Service Providers
MARCH 26, 2007
There were two important U.S.
government decisions last week that benefit companies
providing wireless broadband and VoIP services.
In the first news, the FCC said
it will exempt high-speed wireless internet providers from
greater regulation by classifying wireless broadband Internet
access as an information service, and not a telecommunication
or commercial mobile radio service. The decision puts wireless
broadband internet on the same regulatory footing as broadband
cable and DSL internet services, and is in line with the FCC’s
goal of promoting widely available wireless broadband services
for consumers across the country.
Commenting on the news, Steve
Largent, president of the wireless communications industry
group CTIA, said, “Because of forward-looking policies like
this one, wireless broadband will continue to spur
revolutionary advances in public safety, medicine, homeland
security, education and business.”
Link to the FCC announcement:
http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-271695A1.pdf
The second event was a federal
appeals court upholding a prior FCC ruling that bars states
from imposing tariffs and taxes on VoIP companies. According
to the FCC, the additional regulations on VoIP providers that
some states had been proposing would have interfered with
federal rules and policies.
The ruling is a positive one
for companies offering VoIP services as well as consumers of
these services. State-imposed taxes would have increased the
costs of VoIP companies, and some of those costs could have
been passed on to their customers.

xG Begins
Testing New Wireless MAC Protocol
FEB. 15, 2007
xG Technology
Inc. has begun over-the-air testing of its proprietary
wireless MAC protocol. xG engineers have
developed an entirely new mobile protocol designed from the
ground up to handle real-time IP (Internet Protocol)
applications such as voice and video. The xG MAC protocol
differs significantly from current wireless approaches that
are either low bandwidth voice only or best effort data
schemes— both of which have inherent technical difficulties.
This effort
addresses one of the primary obstacles that has prevented
mobile VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) from enjoying the
same success that the technology has seen in a wireline
environment. Unlike other approaches that have attempted to
implement VoIP over an existing cellular network, the xG MAC
protocol was specifically designed to handle IP services
within the framework of an IP-centric solution.
