xMax Demo Network
To demonstrate its game-changing products, xG Technology has deployed a live xMax network in the interference-laden Fort Lauderdale, Florida area. This network showcases xG’s cognitive radio and high-quality mobile VoIP and data services. These features, along with its dynamic interference mitigation capabilities, allow network users to make high quality mobile phone calls, surf the web and steam videos using laptops, smartphones and tablets they already own – without using a single minute or megabyte of their current cellular service.
The key elements in the xMax demo network include:
• Several xMax xAP Access Points
• xMax-MSC call switching system
• xMod mobile hotspots (enables smartphones to use their built-in WiFi to connect to the xMax network)
The demo area consists of 3 xMax xAP Access Points transmitting from tower heights of 35 to 100 feet and covers surface streets, buildings and office complexes. Range is comparable to traditional cell phone networks, which is remarkable considering that xMax systems transmit at a maximum of four watts of power per channel (as opposed to the 60 watts typically required by traditional cellular networks). While the high population and business density found in the coverage area make it prone to significant interference in the 900 MHz band used by xMax, the system's cognitive radio and interference mitigation technology delivers clear calling and fast internet access in addition to seamless handoffs without drop-outs.
