We are pleased to announce that xG Technology Chairman George Schmitt has been officially inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame by the Wireless History Foundation (WHF), an organization formed to preserve and promote the history of the wireless industry. The induction ceremony took place in San Jose, CA on October 15 at WHF's annual event.
The event attracted a number of leading figures from the wireless industry, including the CEOs of Sprint, AT&T Mobility and Verizon. The WHF’s annual festivities drew an impressive cross section of the wireless industry, from representatives for T-Mobile USA, Qualcomm and Google, to small startups.
George Schmitt, who serves as Chairman at xG Technology as well as CEO at MB Technology Holdings, received the award in the pioneer category. Schmitt built the first digital wireless network on GSM, built the world’s first CDMA network in South Korea and went onto to build and operate a large PCS network in the U.S. He has served as CEO of PrimeCo, the first in the U.S. with CDMA service. He is the first American to lead the global GSM association.
The Wireless Hall of Fame Program provides public recognition of outstanding individuals across all segments of the wireless industry. Through 2012, 36 individuals have been inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame.
All of us at xG Technology congratulate George on being recognized with this special honor.
